For many women, it takes a lot of hands to maintain a specific look. There’s your hair stylist for haircuts and highlights; your manicurist for perfectly shaped nails; your esthetician for waxing needs; your dermatologist for your facials. The list goes on.

But, what happens when they all have to close their doors for the time being, as is happening right now during the coronavirus pandemic? You maintain your look the best you can—from home. Monica Gomez, the co-founder of Cera Wax Studio, which has a location in the Mosaic District, offers her best at-home beauty tips below.

Beauty salons have closed because of the coronavirus, meaning readers cannot go to get their eyebrows waxed, threaded, etc. What are your top DIY tips for taking care of brows at home?

The most important thing to keep in mind is to not over-tweeze. Only focus on the stray hairs: The hairs that you know for sure are outside of your brow shape. It’s best not to try and fully shape your brows on your own. Do continue to fill them in with your brow pencil or powder, it will help you get through the growing out easier.

For people who get regular facials done, but cannot right now, what should they do to maintain their skin care routine?

Take this time to get into a regular home skin care routine. Just don’t overdo it. You can do your regular cleanse, use correction serums (lighten dark spots, acne serum, wrinkle fighter, etc.), and moisturizer. If you are going to be near any windows while indoors, apply your SPF as the last step during the day. Don’t over-exfoliate or overuse masks just because you are bored. This can cause stress on the skin and cause a reaction. Stick to face masks one to two times weekly at most during this time.

What are products or maintenance tips that readers should avoid right now?

It’s best to only tweeze very obvious strays and not mess with your actual shape. Don’t forget, brow hairs are tricky. Once we overly tweeze, they may not grow back as full. DIY skin care is fine as long as you don’t overuse them. Take your DIY recipes from a reputable source.

Does Cera Wax Studio offer shipments of DIY kits or products that people can use at home?

We have just released our online store at cera-studio.com. We are offering 20% off of pre-paid treatments and products until Tuesday, March 31 with code “hairysituation.” We carry clean skin care from a variety of small businesses, and when you buy from us, you are supporting small businesses from all around the U.S. You will find items such as tweezers, brow serum, ingrown hair treatment, moisturizers, bath bombs and more.

Is your team available for readers for virtual consultations? If so, how does that process work?

Clients can request virtual consultations during this time. We love keeping in contact with everyone. Some may have questions regarding which products to purchase from our online store and others may have questions on how to prepare for the waxing “comeback.” We are here for everyone! Simply DM us (@cerawaxstudio) or email us infomosaic@cera-studio.com.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Support your small businesses right now. Cera will continue to post about various small businesses who are offering virtual promotions across the board, including those in the beauty, fitness and restaurant industries. We will get through this together!
